2010-2019 Lucky Penny Necklace

♥ Remember your loved one with a custom date. ♥

A handmade coin necklace made from a US Penny and a Tibetan Silver Angel Wing. It has an aged copper patina and is coated with a sealer to maintain the current finish. It is hanging on an 18 inch Stainless Steel Chain.

Each coin used was in circulation and may have nicks, scratches and wear. The older the penny, the more wear it will show. This is what makes each necklace unique and should be expected with each penny. Patina may vary slightly from that shown. The hole and stamps may also vary because they are all crafted by hand. Pennies from 1959 to 1982 are 95% copper. Pennies from 1983 to Current are Zinc with a copper plating. Plated copper ages slightly differently than solid copper. 1959-2008 have the Lincoln Memorial on the back, 2010 to present have the Crest.

Each nick, scratch and imperfection tells a story. I wonder what was bought? Who handled it? Where it has been?

100% legal to make, no longer legal to spend.

Whenever possible, we keep the natural patina built up over time. However, if the patina is too light we may use Ammonia or Liver of Sulfur to darken the coin and bring out the contours. The finish pictured is the Liver of Sulfur version which is a deeper color.

FAQ:

Isn't making a coin into jewelry defacing government property? Yes and no. The US Mint allows individuals to "alter" coins for the purpose of art. As long as you don't try to spend the coin after it has been modified, it is perfectly legal. If you don't believe us, just Google it or go to the US Mint's website and search for jewelry. You can find more information about this on our websites Legal page.

What to expect from your necklace? Unless otherwise stated, we seal all of our penny necklaces in a clear protective coating. This ensures the copper in the coin does not come in contact with your skin and the patina doesn’t change. You can expect years of use with proper care. Because the coins were all in circulation and the faces are not flat, there may be nicks, scratches or unevenness in the pendant. There is not much we can do about it. It adds character! Pennies made in 1982 or older are 95% copper. Pennies from 1983 to Current are Zinc with a copper plating. Plated copper cleans and ages slightly differently than solid copper. Because we list multiple necklaces in a single listing to save us time (which allows us to offer you better prices) the patina may vary slightly between coins. The holes and any stamps may also vary. This is because they are all hand crafted. No two necklaces will be exactly alike.

Can I get other chain lengths? Absolutely, our standard length is 18" but I can shorten or lengthen the chain or even add an extra loop for multiple lengths. You just need to ask me before purchasing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are Coin Rings?

Coin rings are rings made from coins! Most coins are round so they are perfect for ring making. First you make a hole in the center. Then using any number of tools, you fold the coin into a ring. Once the inner circle is the same width as the outer circle, you use a ring stretcher/reducer to achieve your final size. Then just polish or paint for the end look.

Isn't making a coin into a ring defacing government property?

Yes and no. The US Mint allows individuals to "alter" coins for the purpose of art. As long as you don't try to spend the coin after it has been modified, it is perfectly legal. If you don't believe us, just Google it or go to the US Mint's website and search for jewelry. You can find more information about this on our Legal page.

Some Mint locations actually sell coin rings. And if it was illegal, would theme parks and tourist attractions be able to sell stamped flattened pennies?

What can I expect from my coin ring?

Unless otherwise stated, we coat all of our clad (circulated, non-silver) and copper rings in a protective coating. This ensures the copper and/or nickel in the coin does not come in contact with your skin. You can expect years of use with proper care. Because the coins were all in circulation and the faces are not flat, there may be nicks, scratches or unevenness in the ring. There is not much we can do about it. No ring will be perfectly round but that is the case with any coin ring no matter who makes it. It adds character!

Because we sell multiples, the patina and any hole or stamp positions may vary slightly. That is because they are all handcrafted.
