Pre-1982 US Copper Lucky Penny Coin Ring Necklace - Antiqued

Pre-1982 US Copper Penny Coin Ring Necklace - Antiqued

A handmade coin ring necklace made from a Pre-1982 US Copper Lincoln Penny. It has an aged copper patina and is coated with ProtectaClear to maintain the current finish. It is hanging on an 18 inch Stainless Steel Chain.

Each coin used was in circulation for over 35 years. Assorted years which may no longer be visible. Patina may vary slightly from that shown.

Since the penny surface was not flat, the inner rim will not be even on all sides. It looks best with the reed edge facing out.

Each nick, scratch and imperfection tells a story. I wonder what was bought? Who handled it? Where it has been?

100% legal to make, no longer legal to spend.

Ring Care:

Most coins are made from copper and nickel. These metals have a tendency to turn skin colors when they come in contact with your skin’s natural oils. To prevent this from happening, we coated your ring with a clear protective coating. If cared for properly, this coating will last for several years. However, eventually, this coating will wear away and the ring will need to be recoated. To extend the life of the coating, we recommend you follow these simple suggestions.

• Remove your ring when around solvents (this includes nail polish remover and alcohol).
• Remove your ring when showering and/or washing your hands.
• Remove your ring while sleeping.
• Do not attempt to polish the ring. It will remove the coating.
• To clean your ring, just use water and a soft cloth.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are Coin Rings?

Coin rings are rings made from coins! Most coins are round so they are perfect for ring making. First you make a hole in the center. Then using any number of tools, you fold the coin into a ring. Once the inner circle is the same width as the outer circle, you use a ring stretcher/reducer to achieve your final size. Then just polish or paint for the end look.

Isn't making a coin into a ring defacing government property?

Yes and no. The US Mint allows individuals to "alter" coins for the purpose of art. As long as you don't try to spend the coin after it has been modified, it is perfectly legal. If you don't believe us, just Google it or go to the US Mint's website and search for jewelry. You can find more information about this on our Legal page.

Some Mint locations actually sell coin rings. And if it was illegal, would theme parks and tourist attractions be able to sell stamped flattened pennies?

What can I expect from my coin ring?

Unless otherwise stated, we coat all of our clad (circulated, non-silver) and copper rings in a protective coating. This ensures the copper and/or nickel in the coin does not come in contact with your skin. You can expect years of use with proper care. Because the coins were all in circulation and the faces are not flat, there may be nicks, scratches or unevenness in the ring. There is not much we can do about it. No ring will be perfectly round but that is the case with any coin ring no matter who makes it. It adds character!

Because we sell multiples, the patina and any hole or stamp positions may vary slightly. That is because they are all handcrafted.
